Democracy for Tennessee officially launched its Vote By Mail for Tennessee campaign this weekend when Democracy for Cumberland County sponsored the first Vote By Mail Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, January 20, in Crossville. Carol Kemp, Chair of DFCC, and DFCC members warmly welcomed the approximately 50 attendees from across the community who braved Saturday’s cold to attend the group's first meeting of the new year.

Carol’s powerpoint presentation provided the group a look into Oregon’s successful Vote by Mail system, which has increased voter participation and given voters confidence that their votes have been correctly counted. A fascinating DVD, showing how Vote by Mail works in Oregon, was part of the morning’s program.

Many states are experimenting with variations of Vote by Mail to encourage greater citizen participation in one of democracy’s most valuable rights – voting and being assured that our vote counts. Another positive aspect of Vote By Mail is that it is a nonpartisan issue. The presidents of both the Republican and Democratic Party clubs from Fairfield Glade were both in attendance (photo above) and supported Vote By Mail.
