Five members of Democracy for Chattanooga have stepped up to take over leadership of the group from Susan Mosely and Pam Love, both of whom are stepping down to take care of personal and business responsibilities.

Mike Bascom, Donna Carey, Alan Foster, Matthew Hine and Kitty Messler will begin planning the group’s future agenda which is likely to focus on issues such as curbside recycling, health care and the statewide Vote By Mail initiative.

“I feel like the group is in great hands,” said Susan Mosley, who will step aside as leader to focus on her Four Seasons Wellness business. Susan and Pam drew thunderous applause from the group for their hard work over the last year that has made Democracy for Chattanooga one of the state's most vibrant DFA chapters.

“There’s an active progressive population here in Chattanooga and they’re ready for change,” said Mark Naccarato, chairman of Democracy for Tennessee, who attended the meeting. “I look forward to hearing about their new initiatives.” Jim Grinstead, DFT's new executive director, was also on hand to add words of encouragement to the new leadership of Democracy for Chattanooga.

In other business, Sheriff Billy Long took time from his busy day of handling a visit from George W. Bush to speak with the group. "I am going to need your help soon," Sheriff Long said. "We have a budget to submit that is going to provide more police protection, but there may be some resistance to it. I hope I can have your help so we can all have a safer place to live and work". Billy was enthusiastic in his praise to Democracy for Chattanooga and Democracy for Tennessee, who played a key role on the ground in helping him win his race. "What you all are doing is very important and I am deeply grateful for all the help from DFA".
