New Leadership and New Sheriff Shine at Chattanooga Meetup!

Five members of Democracy for Chattanooga have stepped up to take over leadership of the group from Susan Mosely and Pam Love, both of whom are stepping down to take care of personal and business responsibilities.

Mike Bascom, Donna Carey, Alan Foster, Matthew Hine and Kitty Messler will begin planning the group’s future agenda which is likely to focus on issues such as curbside recycling, health care and the statewide Vote By Mail initiative.

DFA group in Chattanooga Sees "Iraq for Sale"

Democracy for Chattanooga hosted the premiere of "Iraq for Sale: the War Profiteers" at Barking Legs Theatre, a center for new and innovative performing arts: music events, dance performances, poetry readings, lectures, films, art exhibits, and live theatre.

Democracy for Chattanooga's Candidate Forum for County Commissioners Addresses the Issues!

On April 4th, Democracy for Chattanooga - in cooperation with the Hamilton Voter’s Council - sponsored a County Commission candidate forum at Chattanooga State for a crowd of concerned citizens.

(NOTE: This report was submitted after the May 2 elections and includes the results of the race).

District 1: Laura Oakley (R) local business owner, is specifically concerned with the county land use plan, air quality, and illegal dumping. Incumbent Fred Skillern (R), who did not appear, won the primary on May 2nd.

Here Come the Judges at Democracy for Chattanooga's Candidate Forum!

Democracy for Chattanooga and the Hamilton County Voters Council hosted a Judicial Candidates Forum at Chattanooga State Technical College on Tuesday, March 21st. Nine candidates for various offices including Chattanooga City Judge, Circuit Court Judge, General Sessions Court Judge, and Criminal Court judgeships attended.

Democracy for Chattanooga and the Hamilton County Voters Council held a Candidate Forum for this year's Sheriff contenders at the University of Tennessee/Chattanooga’s Grote Hall on Feb. 28th.

The forum was the major public kickoff in what is shaping up to be a very exciting race, with two Democrats, one Independent, and the former chief deputy running as a Republican challenger to the longtime incumbent Republican, John Cupp.

Wal-Mart film event gets local press in Chattanooga thanks to DFC!

On Nov. 15, Democracy for Chattanooga and IBEW Local 175 sponsored a showing of the new documentary exposing Wal-Mart's many questionable practices, including inadequate health care coverage, disregard for environmental issues, unfair hiring practices, and poverty level wages.

"World Can't Wait" rally rocks Chattanooga!

Thanks to all of you who gathered at the “World Can’t Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime” rally held at Miller Park on Nov. 2nd!

We had folks from 8 to 80 protesting the illegal and corrupt war in Iraq, the violation of civil rights by the Bush Administration, the unchecked federal spending, the corporate control of day-to-day activities of our public servants, and the cronyism, corruption, and incompetence at the highest levels of government.

Stand up for your rights and morals!

Terry Stulce, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, spoke to Democracy for Chattanooga at our October Meetup. Terry hopes to be the anti-Zach Wamp. He feels that Representative Wamp has become a "rubber-stamp vote for any harebrained idea the Bush Administration proposes".
